Who’s Stoopid?
I can't resist diving into the US election/Trump commentary pool.
What does the American election result teach you about people?
"They're stoopid!" I hear many shout from the bleachers.
This belief arises because Trump supporters have a different perspective on the world to those doing the shouting.
What matters to the Trump supporters differs from what matters to the shouters.
Whose perspective is right? This is where it gets tricky, as there is no absolute truth here. Your truth depends on your perspective.
We tend to think other people share our worldview and, therefore they will accept our logic and reasoning. But if that worldview is not shared, our logic and reasoning are meaningless to them.
And this cuts both ways. I bet Trump supporters think Harris supporters are stoopid.
I love Charlie Munger's quote "I never allow myself to hold an opinion on anything that I don't know the other side's argument better than they do."
So, walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you go leaping into the land of comfortable conclusion.
(BTW, this is easy to say - but hard to make a habit of because of our love affair with shortcuts.)
